Learn to Skate with Olympian Mark Cockerell

We are excited to announce that Mark Cockerell has joined Plex Ice and HiWire as one of our newest Figure Skating Coaches. Mark has an impressive record in the figure skating world which includes him winning the World Junior Figure Skating Championships in 1976, earning bronze medals at U.S. Nationals in 1983 and in 1984, and a silver in 1985. In 1984 he placed 13th at the Winter Olympics, and has skated with four world figure skating tours.

Mark has been collaborating with our Figure Skating Director, Katie Zabinski, to bring new and exciting programs to our Ice Rink this summer. Along with our previously established Learn to Skate Program, which begins on May 11th and runs through July 1st, a Home School Learn to Skate Program and a Kid Skate program have been added to our Figure Skating curriculum to help bring skating to our community.

The Home School Learn to Skate Program is offered as an eight-week session on either Tuesdays or Thursdays from 10:30 to 11:30 am. The next session for this program runs from May 11th through July 1st. The Home School Learn to Skate program will resume after summer break.

Kid Skate is a four-week session on Mondays from 10:30 to 11:30 am and both a parent and child who is six or younger can participate. The summer session for this program runs from May 15th through June 5th. If you want to try this program for free we are having a “Try Kid Skate for Free” on May 12th at 10:30 a.m. E-mail katie@plexhiwire.com.
